This day was initially meant to celebrate the New England Patriots’ victory over the Buffalo Bills to secure the AFC East title. However, the team is choosing to recognize the ongoing tragedies occurring around the world.
A spokesperson for the Patriots mentioned that there will be a moment of silence for the “horrible event” that took place at Brown University on Saturday, to be observed before the game kicks off against the Bills on Sunday in Bondi Beach, Australia.
Brown University, close to Patriots’ facilities
Brown University, located roughly 30 miles from the Patriots’ practice facility in Foxborough, Massachusetts, was the site of a school shooting that resulted in multiple fatalities and several injuries.
Interestingly, the Bills were in Providence, Rhode Island, when the incident occurred. Thankfully, no one from the Bills’ group was harmed, and they opted not to move to their hotel as a precautionary measure.

Hanukkah festival assault resonates with the Patriots
The Patriots are also expected to acknowledge the tragic mass shooting at a Hanukkah festival in Bondi Beach, Australia.
Authorities in Australia have categorized this incident as a “terrorism” attack, aimed at targeting Jewish individuals, including women and children. Reports indicate that at least 12 people lost their lives and around 28 were hospitalized after two gunmen opened fire from an elevated position.
This event marks one of the deadliest assaults on Jewish communities since the devastating Hamas attack in Israel back on October 7, 2023.
Statements from Robert Kraft
The impact of these events is profoundly felt within the Patriots community, particularly with team owner Robert Kraft, who has openly shown his support for Jewish initiatives.
Kraft is associated with the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate, which monitors the increase in anti-Semitism both in the U.S. and globally.
Recently, Kraft spoke to media outlets about the Alliance and conveyed his apprehensions regarding the election of Zoran Mamdani as New York City’s mayor.
