If Paul Pierce is still playing, he probably won’t be touching a basketball anytime soon.
The Hall of Famer posted a photo to his Instagram Story of himself lying in a hospital bed before revealing his gruesome injury.
Pierce, 46, then shared a photo that Instagram deemed “sensitive content,” and rightly so.

The tip of his right ring finger was bent sideways and appeared to have blood on it.
“I just broke a few fingers and I’m going to have surgery on one of them,” Pearce wrote in the caption.
A bandage was then placed on the finger.

It is unclear how Pierce was injured. He had posted a podcast clip earlier in the day.

He played 19 years in the NBA, 15 of them with the Celtics in Boston, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021 after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in 2008 to win their only NBA title.
It’s certainly not the worst injury Pierce has sustained.
He was stabbed 11 times at a Boston nightclub in September 2000 and underwent lung surgery about a month before starting his third NBA season.

Pierce averaged 19.7 points on 44.5 percent shooting during his career.
