Pedro Pascal shares his views after starring in a movie said to oppose MAGA: ‘Forget about those who try to instill fear in you’

Pedro Pascal Discusses Political Views at Cannes

At a recent press event, actor Pedro Pascal opened up about his political views related to his new film. When a journalist inquired if he felt nervous about returning to the United States, especially considering potential repercussions from the government, Pascal firmly dismissed the notion of fear.

“It’s pretty intimidating for me to really engage with this,” he admitted. “I’m not fully informed.” Variety characterizes his film as a critical examination of the pro-Trump movement, and Pascal’s passion became evident when he was asked about the threat of retaliation.

“Fear is how they win,” he stated emphatically.

He added, “I’ll keep expressing myself and advocating for who you are,” while sitting beside Joaquin Phoenix. “And those who don’t understand, they intimidate you, right? Well, it’s important to push back.” Pascal also mentioned how he hadn’t been adequately prepared to comment on former President Trump’s immigration policies.

“It’s definitely daunting for those involved in the film to address these topics. Honestly, it’s overwhelming for me. I just want everyone to feel safe and protected. I really want to be on the right side of history,” he expressed.

In sharing his personal background, Pascal spoke about being an immigrant. “My parents fled dictatorship in Chile. We sought refuge in Denmark before I was fortunate enough to grow up in the U.S.” However, he added with some hesitation, “I’m not sure I completely understand your question. It’s a bit daunting.”

Pascal was at Cannes promoting his new film “Eddington,” which explores how conspiracy theories gained traction among New Mexico residents during the pandemic. The film is slated for release in July.
