Chaotic Township Council Meeting in New Jersey

A Republican mayor in New Jersey made headlines this week after a tumultuous township council meeting turned explosive when he charged at a resident. The dramatic incident unfolded during a meeting on Wednesday night, with video capturing the moment when Pemberton Township Mayor Matthew Bianchini rushed toward the critic, identified as Michael Sawka. Witnesses had to step in to physically restrain him.

According to reports, Sawka is known for his outspoken criticism of Bianchini. The footage reveals the mayor yelling threats, including, “I’m getting you,” as he moved toward Sawka.

Following the altercation, Bianchini admitted to losing his cool. “I just basically snapped,” he stated, adding that he felt the situation had been brewing for a while. The mayor acknowledged that his behavior was not appropriate, explaining, “I should not have said that. That was wrong.” He explained that it was spontaneous, saying, “In the heat of the moment, I’m not gonna get anybody.”

The confrontation escalated while a recently terminated township employee was addressing the council. Members of Bianchini’s family reported that Sawka and another individual made remarks about the mayor’s wife and daughter, who were present in the room. As tensions flared, Sawka was seen gesturing rudely before the mayor rushed at him.

Bianchini stood by his actions, saying, “Was it wrong? Absolutely. Was it justified? Absolutely. And I would do it again if I had to.” He further warned, “Don’t attack my family.”

In contrast, Sawka denied making any derogatory comments and insisted he remained calm throughout the encounter, stating, “I’m just sitting there. I never got up.”

The following day, Sawka filed a municipal court complaint against Bianchini, seeking charges for assault and making terroristic threats. So far, local police have not indicated if they will take action. Fox News Digital has reached out to Pemberton Township police for a statement.

The Pemberton Township Democratic Club responded to the incident, emphasizing that the community deserves leaders who can handle themselves with composure and professionalism. They also encouraged residents to engage in the upcoming election, where Bianchini is campaigning to retain his position.
