Mike Pence Calls for Ending Funding to Planned Parenthood

Former Vice President Mike Pence is urging Congressional Republicans to stop federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. He’s expressed concerns that, without action, significant taxpayer money might be funneled to these organizations by Independence Day.

Pence’s statements align with a new guideline from his conservative think tank, the Advance American Freedom Foundation (AAFF), which lays out 20 legislative priorities for the forthcoming “Reconciliation 2.0” package.

One of Pence’s primary concerns is to extend the temporary ban on Medicaid funding for abortion providers, which is set to expire on July 4. He firmly stated, “Congressional Republicans must commit to pro-life Americans by extending the ban on federal funding.” He added that allowing Planned Parenthood to receive taxpayer money is intolerable to him and many pro-life advocates.

The AAFF also suggests ways to either permanently ban or extend the moratorium on funding for abortion providers. A proposal includes imposing a tax on these providers that would equal the Medicaid funds they receive each year.

Pence’s focus on defunding abortion providers is just one part of his broader agenda. The AAFF outlines 19 other priorities, which encompass measures to target companies employing undocumented workers, enforce stricter voting requirements, and eliminate subsidies for “green energy.”

Additionally, the foundation proposes strategies to reduce federal spending through enhanced savings opportunities for children and rewarding states that support school choice programs, while penalizing those involved in Medicaid fraud.

Pence emphasized the importance of conservative policy proposals in shaping discussions in Congress, stating that the AAFF is aimed at combating waste and bolstering election integrity. He believes these ideas will provide essential resources for policymakers.

As of now, Planned Parenthood has not responded to inquiries for comment.
