Pence's organization calls on Trump to implement 'maximum pressure' on Iran.

Advocacy groups associated with former Vice President Mike Pence released a memo on Thursday, calling for the Trump administration to implement a “maximum pressure” strategy against Iran following a strike on the country’s nuclear facility.

The memo, which was first reported by Hill, suggests that the administration is “wise” to adopt this strong approach towards Iran, especially as President Trump appears open to dialogue with Tehran.

“President Trump has dealt a significant setback to Iran’s ambitions regarding nuclear capabilities, effectively pushing back its uranium enrichment efforts year after year,” the memo stated. “Nevertheless, if the Trump administration re-engages with Iran, it would be prudent to revert to the maximum pressure approach initially employed during its first term and remain alert to the heightened tensions within the country.”

The memo outlines three key recommendations for the administration. Firstly, it advocates for a complete ban on uranium enrichment. Secondly, it urges the imposition of “severe sanctions” akin to those enacted during Pence’s vice presidency.

Moreover, the memo emphasizes support for Iranian opposition and the rights of the Iranian people, advocating for their ability to “determine their own future by establishing a genuine democratic republic,” a sentiment echoed by a bipartisan majority within the House of Representatives.

Pence was among those who commended Trump after the president’s decision to strike three Iranian nuclear sites in June. The former vice president asserted that the administration “doesn’t really have to do” more.

While Trump maintains that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons, he has occasionally indicated a willingness to engage with Tehran, hoping for improvements in the Iranian economy.

Pence has also emerged as a vocal critic of Trump and his administration, particularly concerning certain policies within the Department of Health and Human Services, notably tariffs and the appointment of Robert F. Kennedy.

Despite these criticisms, the former vice president continues to use his advocacy platform to support policies that align with the White House, including the extension of the 2017 tax cuts.
