A Pennsylvania man stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in front of police last week, then tried to stab himself in the neck during a foot chase, authorities said Monday.

Trevor Weigel, 23, is accused of attacking and stabbing Jaden Batista, 19, more than a dozen times outside a home on Waterford Road in Lower Makefield Township. There is. Authorities believe she was stabbed 15 times.

Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Shawn said officers were called to the home just after 2:20 p.m. Friday after receiving a report of a burglary in which a man had attempted to gain entry through a first-floor window. . They later learned the call was domestic-related.

Authorities said Batista was on FaceTime with a friend when he noticed Weigel banging on the door outside his home. Police said her friend heard the commotion on the other end and that Batista’s voice was muffled “as if someone was covering her mouth and preventing her from speaking.”

Police said the man fled the scene and stabbed the victim multiple times in the neck as he ran before climbing a fence. He was eventually taped up by police and taken into custody. Authorities said they had recovered the knife used in the murder.

Wigel is charged with murder, robbery, possession of instruments of crime, disorderly conduct and harassment. He is being held without bail.

Prosecutors praised first responding officers for trying to save Batista’s life as other officers chased Weigel before he was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The officer is an Iraq War veteran who worked for the Philadelphia Police Department in a high-crime area before being assigned to the Lower Makefield Police Department.
