Pennsylvania school crossing guard accused of distributing products to students

A local crossing guard in Pennsylvania has been arrested for allegedly supplying drugs to a middle school student.

According to authorities, 26-year-old Kiara Lee was taken into custody Tuesday night and arrested for distributing substances, including e-cigarettes and marijuana, to students at Pennwood Middle School.

Police told Fox 29 Philadelphia that one of the students reported Lee provided e-cigarettes to students on multiple occasions and frequently smoked marijuana with other students.

A parent of a student also confirmed this to Fox29: Lee had given the child e-cigarettes and marijuana edibles.

Authorities said text messages between Lee and the student also described their experiences after eating the food.

“School patrol officers embody the role of public servant. They are literally entrusted with the lives of children and hold sacred positions of trust in communities across our state and nation. When individuals abuse that trust, it is deeply disturbing and undermines the well-being of entire communities,” said Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollstamer.

Parents of students at Penn Wood Middle School told Fox 29 the news about Lee is extremely worrying.

“As a parent, it’s hard enough trying to keep your kids away from influences, and then to have district employees selling it to your kids, it’s just insane,” Maya Bryant said.

“It’s a shame that we have people out there working on the street trying to protect our kids and these kids are getting drugs from them. It’s just horrible,” another parent, Marekka Dade, told Fox 29.

Lee is charged with two counts of corruption of minors and two counts of possession of marijuana, among other offenses, according to jail records.

Authorities say she was unable to post $20,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 14.
