AI development companies like Openai and Google Deepmind are building smarter AI systems that belong to the “reckless race” and could soon become “an army of geniuses.” It may seem like a good idea to the people behind technology, but it may spell disaster for humanity.
“It’s going to be very thrilling – and also very scary,” says Daniel Kokotajlo, former Openai researcher and executive director of the AI Futures project. Glenbeck About the Glenbeck Program.
“It is stated intent that CEOs of these companies will ultimately build something close,” he continues, “Super Intelligence is a completely autonomous AI system that is completely superior to all humans.”
“It sounds like a movie that we all saw,” commented Glenn.

“They’ve seen those films in full,” Kokotajiro says of the people behind the promotion of super intelligence. “And they’re totally thinking, yes, it can really get worse. In fact, it’s part of some of the founding stories of these companies.”
“Early early on, many people in these companies had the same idea: ‘Wow, this is going to be the biggest thing ever. If it works, it might be the best thing ever. If it gets poor, it could literally kill anyone or do something equally devastating that leads to permanent dystopia,” he continues.
One of the major issues that could lead to the latter is that the people who run these companies or are high above them are not the ones who are worried about where this is all on their way.
Those who are concerned are like Kokotajiro – millions of people who have left away from equity.
Kokotajlo said, “How can I see how to make AI control when AI is smarter than us?” Over time, he realized that there is little effort to address these questions.
“It’s just an example of something that made me stop,” he explains. “We don’t understand that, but we don’t know how to control it, and we’re going to build it anyway. And it’s going to be a disaster. That’s basically what made me leave.”
