Philadelphia DA labels Trump a 'convicted criminal' against public safety

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has issued a warning to President Donald Trump, advising him to stay away from the city, particularly after Trump took charge of certain law enforcement operations in Washington as a response to rising crime rates. Krasner commented, “He won’t try it in Philadelphia,” as he spoke to CNN, labeling Trump a “convicted criminal” who is supposedly against public safety.

Krasner expressed skepticism about Trump’s potential actions in Philadelphia. He pointed out that, in other cities, Trump might have fewer rights to act as he pleases. Backing Krasner is George Soros, a billionaire known for his left-leaning views. Krasner emphasized that people should be concerned about their democracy amid Trump’s behavior, stating, “Donald Trump is in an emergency, people… If you want your democracy, you’re in a better position now.”

This warning comes shortly after a former Democratic judge announced his candidacy for the upcoming election on the Republican ticket, aiming to defeat Krasner and tackle the city’s crime issues. Judge Patrick Dugan’s campaign is fueled by his claim, “Because we don’t want a liar at the party.”

Krasner criticized Trump’s alleged beliefs and actions that he feels endanger public safety. He asserted, “There is no indication that this man is in favor of conduct that complies with public safety laws.” Instead, Krasner accused Trump of seeking power, fostering fascism, and undermining democracy.

In response to questions about Trump’s involvement in Philadelphia, which has significant drug issues, Krasner maintained that the city represents a “cradle of democracy.” He reflected on the long-standing negative sentiments towards Trump among the populace.

Despite claims of prolonged crime issues in Philadelphia, Krasner pointed out that homicide rates are at their lowest in 50 years, and imprisonment rates have also decreased.

He concluded by urging resistance against what he termed a “non-American attempt to use power in illegal ways” that aims to intimidate major urban centers and promote racist agendas. In recent actions, Kansas Republicans in the state legislature tried to remove him from his position in 2022 over professional conduct issues.
