Philadelphia mayor ridiculed after social media mistake appears to reveal Harris pick for VP

A social media gaffe potentially ruined the surprise that was revealed when the highly anticipated vice presidential pick was revealed.

“Why are they so bad at their jobs?”

The mayor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, posted on X that the state’s governor has decided to join Kamala Harris as a Democratic presidential candidate.

“Proud to have so many leaders from across the region come back to support @KamalaHarris for President and @JoshShapiroPA for VP. We are united as One City, One Region, One Commonwealth!” said a tweet from Mayor Sherrelle Parker’s official account.

The camp has not acknowledged the selection.

The leak, which included a video confirming that Shapiro would become vice president, was widely mocked on social media.

“Did @KamalaHarris’ choice for Veep just fall out of a coconut tree?” Responded Pennsylvania State Representative Martina White.

“Who is in charge of communications for the mayor and why are they so bad at their job?” Asked Another user.

“There’s no way an intern from Philadelphia could screw up like this guy.” Reply Another critic.

“My bingo card didn’t say that the mayor of Philadelphia would be the person to announce Gov. Josh Shapiro’s presidential bid. And I didn’t really put much of what’s happened so far this year on my bingo card. Maybe I need a new bingo card.” Said Journalist Salena Zito.

Before the leak, speculation was sparked on Wednesday after Harris’ campaign scheduled an event in Philadelphia for Aug. 6, adding that the vice president would accompany her.

Electing the Pennsylvania governor would help Democrats win electoral votes in a swing state, but it would also anger anti-Israel elements within the party, who some say have crossed into anti-Semitism in their criticism of Jewish politicians.
