On Wednesday, images of Renee Nicole Good were made public. Good, an American citizen, was killed by masked ICE agents in Minneapolis during the immigration enforcement actions that took place under the Trump administration.
The incident unfolded when Good, 37, was shot while driving in south Minneapolis. She was later pronounced dead. The identity of the investigator who fired the shot has not been disclosed yet, and the case is still being looked into.
As part of the ongoing response, photos showing Good in family settings and professional portraits were shared.
Minneapolis City Council members issued a statement demanding the removal of ICE from the city following the shooting. “This morning, an ICE officer shot and killed a member of our community, Renee Nicole Good,” they stated. “Anyone who kills someone in our city deserves to be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Council expressed solidarity with the immigrant community in Minneapolis, accusing federal immigration authorities of causing “chaos and violence,” and pledged to collaborate with state partners to ensure the safety of residents.
Reaction from Democrats has been strong, with many condemning ICE’s actions and urging its withdrawal from Minneapolis. “ICE’s actions today were unconscionable and reprehensible,” commented Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, expressing her outrage. “I am heartbroken for the families of the victims who will forever have to live with the pain caused by the Trump administration’s reckless and deadly actions.”
She further stated, “This is not law enforcement. This is state violence. It is completely indefensible. ICE must be held accountable.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York shared her belief that ICE agents were responsible for Good’s death. “What we witnessed today was murder, and murder needs to be prosecuted,” she stated.
In contrast, President Trump and other Republican leaders have suggested that Good attempted to run over a staff member with her vehicle. However, several Democrats pointed out that footage contradicts that claim. Ocasio-Cortez invited the press to verify the facts themselves.
Despite public criticism, Republican support for ICE remains firm. Vice President J.D. Vance reassured ICE agents that they have backing from the administration.
There were also reports of ICE agents preventing a doctor, who identified himself as a witness, from aiding Good after the shooting, insisting that help was on the way.
Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, spoke to the Minnesota Star Tribune, revealing that her daughter lived in the Twin Cities with her partner. She mentioned that the family was informed of Good’s death late on Wednesday morning. Ganger described the circumstances of the shooting as “very stupid,” suggesting that Good must have been frightened during the encounter. Good, according to her mother, had never participated in protests against ICE, and was known for her kindness and dedication to others.
