Physician in Congress says Joe Biden’s cognitive decline is obvious

With President Joe Biden’s health “clearly deteriorating,” the U.S. doesn’t have a commander in chief who will “stand strong, think hard and think hard for the American people in a time of crisis,” says North Carolina’s only serving lawmaker who is also a physician.

“During my time in office, I’ve watched so many people slip into cognitive decline,” Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., said in an 81-second video he posted to his social media channels around 2 p.m. Thursday. “It was tragic that two weeks ago, the president of the United States showed signs of cognitive decline.”

Murphy said he was very proud of his 35 years as a doctor and that as a urologist he saw “a lot of older people” in his specialty.

He himself recently took a short leave of absence from Washington and announced that he would undergo surgery on May 21 for a pituitary macroadenoma, a tumor at the base of the skull.

Murphy, One of 19 doctors serving in Congresssaid Biden’s health had been covered up “by the White House, many in politics and even prominent figures.”

As the day began, 10 members of Biden’s party had publicly urged him not to run for a second term.

They are Sen. Peter Welch of Vermont, Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas, Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona, Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Rep. Mike Quigley of Illinois, Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota, Rep. Adam Smith of Washington, Rep. Mickey Sherrill of New Jersey, Rep. Pat Ryan of New York and Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon.

“His ability to think, react and understand data has clearly declined,” Murphy said. “What we’re facing now is a country that’s constantly in danger, constantly under threat from other forces coming in from the outside. What we’re facing now is a president that, by and large, the vast majority of Americans don’t feel is up to the job.”

“What’s even more concerning is the fact that the media, the White House and the politicians on their side are lying to the American people. So I’m concerned about the president’s health right now. I’m praying for him. But we need a president of the United States who can think clearly and think well on behalf of the American people in a time of crisis. And sadly, we don’t have that kind of president today.”

Biden, his wife Jill and Vice President Kamala Harris have all vowed not to withdraw from the presidential race.

The three have been seen campaigning in North Carolina since Biden debated former President Donald Trump on June 27.
