Frontier Airlines Flight Incident at Denver Airport Under Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently looking into a tragic event involving a Frontier Airlines flight that left from Denver International Airport and collided with a pedestrian on the runway.

On May 8, 2026, at around 11:19 p.m., Frontier Flight 4345, which was headed to Los Angeles, reported this collision during takeoff. According to a statement from the airport, there was a brief engine fire that was quickly put out by the local fire department.

In response to the incident, emergency personnel transported the passengers from the aircraft to the terminal, where they later boarded another Frontier flight. The aircraft carried a total of 231 individuals on board, and while there were some injuries reported, they were mostly minor. Five passengers required hospital treatment.

The NTSB has been notified, and until the investigation concludes, the affected runway will remain closed. The airport disclosed that the pedestrian had jumped the perimeter fence and was struck just two minutes after entering the runway. The individual, who has not yet been identified, was not believed to be a member of the airport staff.

Concerns regarding airport security were raised, and the Transport Secretary remarked that it is unacceptable for individuals to breach airport barriers. He elaborated that the intruder purposely climbed over the fence, leading to this unfortunate incident. The pilot of the flight, who aborted takeoff immediately, reported high-speed takeoff and an engine fire on the aircraft.

In light of this, the American Association of Flight Attendants praised the actions of both the cockpit crew and the emergency responders. They emphasized the importance of the crew’s professionalism in managing the situation and ensuring the safety of all those on board.

The ongoing investigation is being handled by the NTSB in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), while the airport continues to express sympathies for those affected by the incident.
