Plane issues delay Mets’ flight ahead of Subway Series

The Mets needed more fuel heading into the Subway Series, and in a rare, literal sense of the word.

The club’s flight, which departed South Florida between Monday night and Tuesday morning, was delayed by several hours, giving Carlos Mendoza’s squad little time to prepare before kicking off a two-game series in the Bronx on Tuesday night.

“Still parked on the runway in Miami. Forgot to refuel the jet,” hitting coach Eric Chavez wrote on Instagram in a message sent at 1:56 a.m. ET.

“The Yankees have a day game at home, a nice dinner. The Mets are living their best life on the runway. A level playing field?”

The Mets finished their four-game series against the Marlins on Monday night around 9:30 p.m. and then spent several hours waiting on the plane.

The Yankees beat the Rays in a home game that finished just before 4 p.m., giving the team a rare free Monday night.

The first match between the city rivals is scheduled to kick off at 7:05 p.m.

Luis Gil will face veteran southpaw Jose Quintana.
