Delta Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing Due to Unruly Passenger
A Delta Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing in Texas after an unruly passenger became aggressive, striking another man multiple times during the journey.
Flight 2557, which took off from Houston’s Hobby Airport, was diverted to the runway around 5:25 a.m. Wednesday. This decision came after a passenger displayed “unruly misconduct toward another customer,” according to a Delta representative.
One passenger, Josh Lemastus, described the situation, noting that the man seemed to be in distress and bumped into him before starting to cry on him. He recounted, “As I was sitting there, a man walked aggressively beside me, hit my shoulder, and then began crying on my head.” Subsequently, the man punched him several times and then turned his aggression toward another passenger seated behind Lemastus.
Lemastus observed the man asking for the captain and looking toward the cockpit, but he never attempted to breach the flight deck, as clarified by aviation officials.
In a chaotic turn, other passengers intervened, restraining the aggressive individual while flight attendants swiftly responded, using zip ties to secure him.
Reflecting on the experience, Lemastus mentioned the man’s bizarre behavior: “It was like he was speaking in tongues, and everyone thought he was insane.” The flight, which carried 85 passengers, was declared a state of emergency and made its way back to Hobby Airport, where law enforcement was ready to apprehend the man.
Following the emergency landing, the airline confirmed that the flight later resumed and arrived in Atlanta approximately an hour and a half late. Delta Air Lines emphasized that the safety of passengers and crew is always their top priority, declaring a strict stance against unruly behavior. They also apologized for the distress and delays caused by the incident.
