Podcasters who support Trump caution that the GOP may face loss in the midterms if it doesn't support the MAGA base.

On Tuesday, comedians and podcasters Theo Fung and Dave Smith discussed the challenges facing President Donald Trump and the Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections. They suggested that the party could face severe consequences if Trump doesn’t fulfill the promises he made during his campaign.

Trump has been actively engaging with younger audiences through various podcasts. His past success, termed by some as the “podcast election,” has led to current podcast hosts expressing disappointment in how Trump has not fully implemented his “America First” policies.

During the conversation on Theo Fung’s podcast, Smith acknowledged Trump’s efforts to secure the border after what he described as previous mismanagement, but wasn’t shy about calling out other failures. “Aside from that, it’s been a disaster,” he remarked, pointing to issues like the bombing of Iran and the handling of the Epstein situation. Smith echoed a sentiment that, at this point, the Democrats may take advantage of Republican shortcomings in the upcoming elections.

In another segment, Smith suggested that while he opposes socialist policies, he recognizes that American voters are concerned about affordability. He criticized Trump for not delivering as promised, referencing Trump’s bold statement about ending the Ukraine war swiftly, saying, “He over-promised.” Smith further expressed that unless Trump can provide tangible wins for the American people—wins that matter—he would struggle to maintain support.

Theo Fung empathized with Smith’s viewpoint, sharing the unease surrounding current challenges. “It seems we’re all a bit stressed,” he noted, addressing the collective anxiety about how to address pressing issues.

Smith also reflected on the fundamental promise of Trump’s presidency: to “drain the swamp.” He pointed out the incongruity in the administration’s handling of the Epstein case, suggesting a reluctance to take on the swamp when needed.

Various divisive issues, such as policy towards Israel, could complicate matters further for Republicans, particularly as younger voters show a noticeable lack of unconditional support. Smith warned that this generational divide is crucial for anyone aiming to follow in Trump’s footsteps.

Experiences shared by prominent figures like J.D. Vance emphasize that a significant portion of his base prioritizes “America First” over foreign allegiances. This sentiment resonates across many popular podcasts where there seems to be a collective hesitation toward military involvement for Israel.

Smith mentioned Andrew Schultz, who has criticized the Trump administration for taking actions that contradict its original goals. In a previous interview, Schultz argued that Trump has not adhered to his campaign promises, stating that no president had kept promises to Americans as well as Trump had—yet this belief seems to be evolving.
