Point the finger at the world of digital media for Candace Owens' delusions about assassination

Does anyone really have any concern for Candice Owens? Should I be suggesting she see a psychiatrist?

Then again, perhaps the millions of viewers—80, apparently—who are engaging with her bizarre content could also use some help.

On Saturday, Owens asserted in her X-Post that “senior officials of the French government” had warned her that President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron were behind a plot to assassinate her. She went on to claim that the assassination squad included “at least one Israeli.”

It seems she’s losing her grip on reality little by little.

These grandiose claims shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone who has followed Owens’ recent trajectory. For quite some time now, she’s been alleging that Brigitte Macron is transgender and that the Macrons are part of some pedophile cult known as the “Frankists,” which supposedly played a role in founding Israel. She’s even hinted that Brigitte might actually be Emmanuel’s biological father.

In the middle of all this, she has also stoked the flames of a wild conspiracy theory suggesting that Israel was involved in the assassination of her former ally, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

In essence, Candace Owens seems to be channeling her inner Alex Jones.

She boasts 5.6 million subscribers on YouTube and 7.4 million followers on X.

The debut of her Macron-targeting series, “Becoming Brigitte: An Introduction,” pulled in 5 million views. Meanwhile, her outrageous post about the alleged France-Israel collaboration reached a staggering 39 million views over the weekend.

While many may simply be shocked by this spectacle, it’s a troubling indication of how our current digital media landscape favors personalities and scandals—often sensational—over anything resembling actual reason or substantial discourse.

With each click, Owens’ visibility grows, filling her pockets and funneling her content into the feeds of equally unmoored viewers. Many seem to buy what she’s selling.

The algorithms that determine which content gets spotlighted seem to reward the most outrageous material, thereby fostering an environment ripe for delusional beliefs.

Owens has always had her quirks, but there was once a time when she managed to maintain a facade of stability that could compete with mainstream conservatives. She began her journey at The Daily Wire and Turning Point.

However, her grip on sanity—or perhaps her profit-driven mindset—has been deteriorating for some time now, likely encouraged by the notion that outlandishness leads to greater notoriety.

And now, that grip appears to be slipping away in real-time.

Candace clearly needs a serious welfare check, and so does the conspiracy-laden online media environment that has propelled her into this madness.
