Police dog finds missing child, 12, after tracking them for miles in freezing cold

A Massachusetts police dog tracked a missing child for miles in frigid weather, ultimately helping authorities reunite the preschooler with his family.

The 12-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, was reported missing after leaving his home Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. This was announced by the Auburn Police Department..

The K9 Visa detected the child’s scent and followed it “over three miles” to an area where there was evidence that the 12-year-old had been there moments earlier, the agency said.

On Wednesday, temperatures in the Auburn area hovered around 31 degrees with a high of 31 degrees and a low of 23 degrees.

“Officers converged on the area and quickly located the child. The child has been reunited with his family and is safe,” an official statement said.

The police station also posted a photo of Visa looking playful in the snow.
