Addict who took former police chief's sex toys attempted to meet Gilgo Beach serial killer for strange discussion, according to sheriff

A repeat offender, whose scandalous relationship with a Long Island police chief ruined the chief’s career, has made an unusual attempt to connect with Gilgo Beach murderer Rex Heuerman while in prison. This effort seems to be part of a scheme to link the former cop to a horrific murder case.

Christopher Loeb, a former drug user, had a violent encounter with ex-Suffolk County Police Chief Jimmy Burke in 2012 after he stole some of Burke’s personal items. This altercation eventually led to Burke’s imprisonment. Loeb now claims he believes Burke had some kind of involvement in Heuerman’s horrific actions.

“We have reason to believe this is a cover-up to protect others,” Loeb remarked recently. He added, “The murders miraculously stopped after I broke into Burke’s truck. I didn’t break into Rex’s truck; I broke into Burke’s truck, and he’s definitely involved.”

It’s worth noting that Burke has never been connected to the Gilgo Beach murders and has not been identified as a suspect.

Currently incarcerated, Loeb faces three unresolved criminal charges relating to assault, strangulation, and grand theft. Yet, he adamantly insists on Burke’s involvement and shows no signs of backing down.

Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon confirmed that Loeb attempted to reach out to Heuerman in jail. “Christopher Loeb visited or tried to contact him,” Toulon noted, referring to Heuerman, and highlighted that Loeb had an altercation with Burke that led to Burke’s downfall.

Loeb’s request to meet Heuerman was ultimately declined, but the sheriff did not elaborate on Loeb’s motivations for this unusual interaction with the notorious serial killer, who recently admitted to killing eight sex workers from 1993 to 2010.

Burke’s tenure was marred by a series of missteps during the Gilgo Beach investigation. While there were rumors about his potential involvement, he was never formally accused and was later cleared of any wrongdoing.

His fall from grace began when Loeb was caught at his mother’s house in December 2012, where police discovered various stolen items, including those belonging to Burke.

Details from court documents indicated that these included a bag containing Burke’s gun belt, ammunition, a cigar box, and personal items, including sex toys and adult films.

During Loeb’s arrest, Burke was reported to have struck him while he was handcuffed and then pressured fellow officers to fabricate accounts of the incident, though this ultimately failed.

Despite his lack of direct involvement in the murders, Burke was charged with federal civil rights violations along with state charges, serving over two years for assault and obstruction before being released in 2019. However, he faced further legal troubles, being arrested again in 2023 on sexual solicitation charges.

Meanwhile, Heuerman’s sentencing is set for June 17, where he is expected to receive three life sentences without the possibility of parole, following his startling guilty plea last week.

Interestingly, during his time awaiting sentencing, Heuerman has also received odd fan letters from other infamous criminals, including the “Happy Face Killer,” Keith Jesperson.
