Police dog takes down man who attacked innocent victim with a modified cane

Recently, alarming footage captured police using a K-9 unit to apprehend a suspect accused of violently attacking a parking attendant in downtown San Diego.

The video depicts a tense scene on the sidewalk where officers have surrounded a man wielding a long wooden stick, which is believed to be a piece of a broken cane from the earlier incident.

The individual seems restless and repeatedly ignores commands to drop his weapon, while moving within a loosely arranged perimeter set up by the police.

Officers can be seen firing several non-lethal rounds—likely beanbag rounds—aimed at subduing him.

Even after being shot three times, the man remained standing, still clutching the stick, and continued to disregard the orders given by the police. As tensions grew, the situation took a turning point.

When the K-9 was released, the suspect charged at the dog, causing it to stumble. Responding units intervened as the dog seized his arm, bringing him down to the ground and securing his arrest. Authorities later named him as 20-year-old Rasapoun Keobongsa.

The violent altercation reportedly stemmed from an earlier attack in the Tailgate Padres parking lot near K Street and 13th Street around 3:42 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigators indicated that the 25-year-old parking attendant was on an electrical box when Keobongsa allegedly approached her, striking her twice in the head with the handle of his broken cane.

As a result of the incident, the victim sustained lacerations to the head and was treated at UCSD Hospital for injuries that were thankfully not life-threatening.

Police later pursued Keobongsa near Park Boulevard, where he was still carrying what was described as a 6-foot wooden pole.

Officials mentioned that his refusal to follow commands led to the initial use of non-lethal measures. When these attempts didn’t work, a K-9 unit was deployed to resolve the chaotic situation.

During the takedown, Keobongsa was bitten on the arm but was ultimately placed under arrest. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
