Teen issues disturbing warning to police amid 4th of July chaos in Newport Beach

Fourth of July Chaos in Newport Beach

A young individual was caught on video making threats against police during the hectic July Fourth celebrations in Newport Beach.

In the widely shared clip on social media, the unidentified young man pretends to shoot a gun and declares, “When I come back tomorrow, I’m going to press the button inside this motherfucker,” suggesting he’ll return to escalate the situation.

Amid the turmoil, a teenage boy calmly addresses the camera while chaos unfolds behind him. Since being posted on TikTok, this video has garnered around 250,000 views and continues to circulate widely.

After the Independence Day festivities turned chaotic, over 400 people were taken into custody. Authorities linked this unrest to a phenomenon dubbed a social media “TikTok takeover.”

Most of those arrested were teenagers and minors during a tumultuous 36-hour spree, which saw law enforcement swarm the Newport Peninsula around 7 p.m. on Saturday due to reports of significant fights and illegal fireworks disrupting the beaches.

Additional footage depicted the chaos, showcasing individuals carrying broken street signs and looting a nearby grocery store, as mounted police moved through the crowd to restore some order.

In anticipation of the expected disturbances, city officials had launched a “Don’t Go to Newport” campaign, warning visitors that public drinking, illegal fireworks, and other unruly behaviors would not be tolerated.

Authorities indicated that many of those apprehended were minors or visitors from outside Newport Beach. One police officer also suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a mortar-shaped firework thrown into the crowd.

Huntington Beach police similarly issued a warning, noting that advertisements for other illegal gatherings were surfacing online and flyers promoting future “takeover” events were being distributed. One flyer simply referred to an upcoming event as an “end-of-summer beach bash.”
