Neighbors in Long Beach, Calif., are shocked after police say they’re after them blood trail They entered an abandoned building and found a homeless man stabbed to death.
Long Beach police said they responded to a call for help Thursday morning from firefighters who were assisting a man who needed medical treatment on Long Beach Boulevard near East Anaheim Street.
Police said they followed a trail of blood into an abandoned building and found the body of a 35-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
That man is pronounced He was pronounced dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics.
Initial investigation revealed that the homeless man may have gotten into an altercation with another man who fled the scene.
Neighbors told KABC that the man was homeless. Some said homelessness was a serious problem.
“They come and scream and scare you,” said Alma Yniguez, who works in a cell phone wireless tent near the crime scene. I don’t know,” he said. . “This is a very conflict-ridden area. I heard there’s a lot going on after all business is closed.”
Street vendor Martha Orellano told KABC that conditions in the area have worsened since the pandemic.
“In today’s day and age, people are using drugs and sheltering in place, and there’s a lot of other things going on,” she explained. “My advice is if you see someone like that, report them to the police if they harass you.”
Police said the investigation is ongoing and they are asking for the public’s help with information about the incident.
