A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Rodney Hinton Jr., an Ohio father accused of murdering a sheriff’s lieutenant. This incident unfolded just after police shot his son, Ryan Hinton, during a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The fundraiser has successfully garnered thousands for legal fees.
Hinton Jr. has been charged with murder for allegedly deliberately hitting Hamilton County Deputy Director Larry Henderson during the lieutenant’s graduation ceremony, as reported by Cincinnati police.
This tragic chain of events started on Thursday when Ryan Hinton, 18, was shot and killed by an officer while trying to escape. According to police, Ryan was armed and had hidden behind a trash can during the encounter, and when he emerged, officers fatally shot him.
Following the incident, two suspects linked to the stolen vehicle have been arrested, while the investigation continues.
The GoFundMe titled “Justice for Rodney Hinton Jr. and his son” aims to help cover Hinton Jr.’s legal expenses and has raised over $5,000, advocating for justice and a halt to police brutality. Another fundraiser, “Respect Ryan Hinton’s Memory and Seek Justice,” has also seen success, bringing in over $7,000 to assist Ryan’s family in their quest for justice.
However, the National Police Association has criticized the support for the fundraisers, suggesting they contradict company policies and should be removed. Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to GoFundMe for additional comments.
Rodney Hinton Jr. was arrested at the Hamilton County Judicial Center earlier this month, facing aggravated murder charges related to Henderson’s death. The family’s attorney indicated that they are in the initial stages of investigating both incidents involving their son and the officers. They recently met with police and reviewed bodycam footage of Ryan’s death, describing the family’s emotional response as understandably distraught.
The attorney expressed deep sympathy for both the Hinton family and the families of the slain officers, emphasizing the tragedy that has struck their community. Henderson, who had a long career in law enforcement, was recognized for his service and dedication. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has ordered flags to be flown at half-mast in Henderson’s memory.
