Police Say Man Killed Wife, Three Sons In Apparent Murder-Suicide

Police said a father shot his wife and three sons before turning the gun on himself Monday in an apparent murder-suicide in Oklahoma City.

Local law enforcement responded to a call around 9:35 in the morning on Monday about five people being dead inside a home, according to The Oklahoman. Investigators told the press that the victims include Lindsay Candy, 39, Dylan Candy, 18, Ethan Candy, 14, and Lucas Candy, 12, who are believed to have been murdered by the family patriarch, Jonathan Candy, 42, who is believed to have subsequently shot himself.

A fourth child was also found at the scene, who was unharmed and released into the custody of family members, according to a press release from Oklahoma City Police Department. The other child was later said to be a 10-year-old child who awoke to discover his family dead, The Oklahoman stated.

Law enforcement said they spent most of the day on Monday at the scene assessing the situation and putting together what happened at the home, as well as talking to neighbors and any potential witnesses. (RELATED: Four Relatives Killed In Suspected Murder-Suicide)

“Investigators determined that sometime overnight the husband and father in the home, Jonathon Candy, became involved in an altercation with his wife, Lindsay,” Master Sgt. Gary Knight said in a press conference shared on social media. “At some point, he armed himself with a gun, shot her multiple times, killing her. At that point, he systematically went through the home, shooting and killing their children.”

No signs of a struggle were identified and at least one of the children was killed in their bed. Knight called the incident a “massacre.” No motive for Candy’s actions have been established at this time.
