Police search for bystander who shot and killed thug after he allegedly pistol-whipped and robbed man at Houston gas station

Texas state police want to question witnesses who shot dead A thug allegedly pistol-whipped a man and stole his wallet at a gas station in northwest Houston.

Houston Police Lt. Ronnie Wilkens said the couple stopped at the Zip-In Zip-Out Chevron gas station around 12:30 a.m. Saturday and were confronted by an armed young adult male.

The man allegedly demanded property from a man who was pumping gas and then struck him with a gun. After stealing the man’s wallet, the suspect began to run away, but a bystander pulled out his own gun and shot him twice in the upper body.

The assailant was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital by paramedics.

The video showed a bystander getting out of a red car parked in front of the gas station and pointing a gun at the man who was running towards him. After the assailant collapsed, a bystander walked to the victim’s car and told him to retrieve his property from the assailant, police said.

The whole incident lasted only about 10 seconds.

Legal analysts told KHOU it is unlikely the man will be charged in the shooting.

“I think anyone who sees this video would think that this shooting was justified under the circumstances,” Carmen Lo said.

The assailant appeared to have been shot in the back, but Lowe explained that he may have believed his life was still in danger because he pistol-whipped the victim.

She also compared the incident to a similar shooting in which a customer shot and killed a man who was threatening him with a gun during a robbery. A grand jury declined to indict the man in January.
