Pollster Nate Silver is calling on President Biden to step down after an interview with ABC News on Friday night.
The 22-minute interview with George Stephanopoulos was intended to appease the president’s critics following his disastrous performance in last month’s debate, but Silver argued the exchange made the president look even worse.
“This is a rather incoherent answer with no logical basis. [complaining] ” Silver was talking about a New York Times poll that falsely claimed Biden’s approval rating was down 10 points before the debate (when it was actually three or four points, depending on which version you look at),” Silver said of a video of Biden talking about his feelings during the debate.
Biden repeatedly dodged questions about whether he would undergo a neurological exam, saying, “Nobody’s saying I have to.”

Silver was writing a morning column about Biden’s campaign that Friday, but he “went soft” and deleted a line urging the president to hand over the reins of the campaign to Vice President Kamala Harris, the lawsuit claims.
But the pollster, speaking to ABC, said he thought it was time to start preparing for a new candidate.
“I had the nerve to delete a line from my column today that said Harris should have a plan in place to transition to the presidency within the next 30 to 60 days, but now she’s right,” Silver said. “Something is clearly wrong.”

“The most generous way to put it is that he appears to be out of command. That’s very hard to convince when you’re commander in chief,” Silver concluded, adding that “Democrats will put incredible pressure on him to remove the president from office.”
In the interview, Biden blamed his poor performance and worrying behavior on fatigue and illness.
The president spent nearly a full week at Camp David preparing for the debate after a lengthy European trip that included an event in France marking the anniversary of the Normandy landings.

Democratic allies continue to pressure Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, arguing he is in a state of mental decline that puts the election in jeopardy.
The Biden administration and lawmakers loyal to the president have denied those allegations, repeatedly telling critics that the president remains sharp and made only one gaffe during the debate.
