The World and Media React to Pope Leo XIV’s Election
Pope Leo XIV wrapped up his inaugural meeting with recognized journalists at the Vatican on Monday morning.
Over 1,000 media members gathered to hear his address, with some even bringing their children. The meeting took place in the Paul VI Hall at the Vatican, where the Pope expressed gratitude to Italian reporters for their dedicated efforts during recent intense weeks.
“Let’s strip communication of all its prejudices and resentments, even fanaticism and hatred,” the Pope urged the audience. “Let’s disarm words, and in doing so, we’ll contribute to disarming the world.”

“The Church acknowledges these brave individuals—those who cover wars at significant personal risk,” he stated. “Their courage facilitates informed choices regarding dignity and justice.” He also emphasized the need for journalists to use artificial intelligence responsibly, insisting that it should benefit all of humanity.
The Pope primarily spoke in Italian but shared a light-hearted moment in English, referencing the standing ovation he received. “Thank you for this wonderful reception,” he said. “They say that initial applause isn’t too significant; it’s the follow-through that counts. Thanks for staying with me until the end!”
