Pope Leo XIV’s Remarks on Competing with Bad Bunny

During a visit to Spain, Pope Leo XIV humorously acknowledged that if young people had to choose between attending his events or watching Latin pop star Bad Bunny, he was aware of the likely outcome.

As he began his week-long stay in Madrid, the Pope noted that he was vying for the attention of the youth against the Puerto Rican musician, suggesting that many would opt for Bad Bunny, a Grammy-winning artist, instead of him.

“I think a lot of people are going to see Bad Bunny when they are faced with the question, ‘Do you want to go see Bad Bunny or do you want to go see the Pope?'” Leo remarked to reporters while on his flight.

He added, “But there will also be some people who will come here to see the Pope. That’s saying something.”

In a lighter tone, he reflected on Bad Bunny’s current series of concerts in Madrid as part of his Spanish tour. The Pope brought up this rivalry while discussing a budding spiritual curiosity among the youth in Spain. He expressed hope that his visit might inspire a sense of awakening.

Despite his playful comments, a significant number of young Catholics turned out to see him, with around 500,000 people gathering in a Madrid square for a vigil, chanting support for the Pope.

As he made his way through the crowd in the Popemobile, the Spanish version of the 1970s musical “Godspell” played in the background. Leo also humorously addressed questions about the potential relocation of the Chicago Bears, commenting, “It’s out of my salary range.”
