A new poll shows the race between party leaders is heating up as a rematch between President Biden and former President Trump in November becomes more likely.
poll, Conducted by Reuters/IpsosDespite Trump’s continuing legal battles and the special counsel’s release of a 388-page report on Biden following a classified document investigation, the two leading candidates remain among voters. I discovered that it is still not very popular.
Trump received support from 37% of respondents, compared to 34% for Biden. According to the poll, about 10% said they planned to vote for another candidate, and 12% said they would not vote. The remaining 8 percent refused to respond, the survey found.
The investigation comes days after special counsel Robert Hur released a 388-page report that found Biden “intentionally” exfiltrated documents from his time as vice president but did not recommend prosecution. We conducted a survey of Americans regarding their opinions on Trump.
After leaving the White House, President Trump was charged with 40 counts of mishandling classified records and obstructing the government’s recovery of classified records. The files found in the Mar-a-Lago mansion reportedly contained national defense information and top secret documents.
Trump swept through his competitors in the Republican primary, leaving only former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, but a new poll shows Trump may be losing momentum. Tuesday’s poll showed Biden’s lead with former President Joe Biden was cut in half, dropping from a 6-point lead last month to just 3 points.
Voters also expressed concern about his ongoing legal battle, as he has defended himself against 91 criminal charges, including four state and federal charges.
More than half of respondents, 55%, said they would not vote for Trump if he was convicted of a felony, and 25% said they would vote for him regardless.
Fifty-eight percent said they would not vote for Trump if he served time in prison, while 23% said they would still vote for the former president and 18% said they were unsure.
Respondents were also concerned about the ages of both candidates, since Biden, at 81, is the oldest president to serve in the Oval Office. Mr. Trump is currently 77 years old.
In his report, Mr. Xu portrayed Mr. Biden as an “old man with a poor memory.” The survey found that 78% of respondents thought Mr. Biden was too old to serve in government, and 53% said the same about Mr. Trump.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted Feb. 9-12 among 1,237 respondents and had a margin of error of about 3 percentage points.
