LIVINGSTON, Texas — The Trinity River Authority has issued a “potential breach warning” for a dam at the bottom of one of the largest man-made lakes in Texas. The warning states that there is “no imminent danger of the dam failing or breaching.”
In a release sent to affected residents near and downstream from Lake Livingston, the Trinity River Authority said a “potential breach warning” had been issued due to recent heavy rains and flooding in the dam’s discharge area.
Emergency management officials for Polk County, which sits east of Lake Livingston and the Trinity River, said they will monitor and evaluate the integrity of the spillway. The TRA will carry out any necessary repairs and corrective actions, Fox 26 Houston reported. report.
Lake Livingston is the largest “single purpose” reservoir in Texas, covering an area of 83,000 acres. The lake has over 45 miles of short distance waterways. Construction was completed in 1971.
