Teacher Fired for Tying Toddler to Chair

A kindergarten teacher was dismissed after security footage showed her tying a 21-month-old child to a chair at a private school in Virginia.

The incident occurred at Vinci School Alexandria North, where the teacher’s assistant was recorded in the act. Interestingly, the child was left bound in a blanket.

Following some unusual behaviors reported at the daycare, the Virginia Department of Social Services conducted an inspection of the school.

According to documents from a local outlet, the teacher admitted to tying the child for about 22 minutes during lunchtime, stating this happened around 11:40 AM.

In the report, she claimed not to have tied a blanket around the child.

She suggested that the child was tied up because they were throwing food on the floor and leaving the table instead of eating.

However, it was noted that other methods to manage the child’s behavior were not attempted prior to this action.

The principal, speaking to a local news station, confirmed there would be no harm done to the child, but acknowledged the gravity of the situation.

“Parenting isn’t always straightforward, but it’s crucial to adhere to regulations strictly, regardless of personal feelings,” said Dr. Dan Yang.

Despite acknowledging the teacher’s prior contributions, she emphasized that every staff member must take responsibility for their actions. “A safe and compliant environment is non-negotiable,” she added.

It was reported that while the child was restrained, another adult entered the room but did not intervene.

According to regional operations director Christina Millum, the teacher had worked there for over four years and was well-liked by many families.

The school has a policy that prohibits physical restraints except as a last resort in situations where a child poses a risk to themselves or others. Meanwhile, local police, after being alerted by Child Protective Services, found no evidence of criminal behavior in this matter.
