World Economic Forum President Steps Down Amid Epstein Controversy

Borge Brende has decided to resign from his role as President and CEO of the World Economic Forum, following scrutiny surrounding his connections to the late Jeffrey Epstein. This comes after findings from the U.S. Department of Justice indicated that Brende had attended three business dinners with Epstein and had engaged with him through emails and text messages.

“I am thankful for the fruitful cooperation with my colleagues, partners, and constituents and believe this is the appropriate time for the Forum to advance its vital work without distractions,” Brende stated.

The World Economic Forum’s board previously announced an independent investigation into the matter, reflecting their commitment to transparency and integrity. The results of this investigation concluded that there were no additional concerns beyond what had already been raised.

In their message regarding Brende’s departure, WEF co-chairs expressed their appreciation for his contributions: “We sincerely thank Borge Brende for his meaningful input into the World Economic Forum. We honor his choice to step down.” They added that they respected his decision to resign.

Interestingly, Brende clarified that he wasn’t aware of Epstein’s troubling history until after the fact. He remarked that had he known, he would have turned down the initial invitation from Terje Rod Larsen, who had invited him to the gatherings.

This certainly puts Brende in a sensitive position, alongside other notable figures tied to Epstein. The shifting landscape of these investigations continues to raise many questions, while Brende’s resignation marks another significant development in this ongoing story.
