On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump urged Congress to quickly pass a substantial bill, while simultaneously criticizing Rep. Thomas Massey (R-KY). He emphasized the need to finalize the legislation, stating, “We need to get the great, big, beautiful bill to my desk as soon as possible.” Trump also suggested that lawmakers should not go home until a deal is made, urging them to work from wherever they could.
Continuing his critique, Trump referred to lawmakers who oppose the bill as being detrimental to the constitution, labeling them as “losers” and insisting they think they appear cool by saying no. Massey, feeling somewhat misunderstood by Trump, responded by highlighting a past compliment from the ex-president, where Trump called him a “first-class advocate of the constitution.” He shared this sentiment in response to inquiries from Fox News Digital.
Massey also mentioned that he was one of the few Republicans who voted against a significant bill last month. In a recent post, he mentioned that Trump’s military actions against Iran were not constitutionally justified, suggesting a disconnect between his views and those of the former president. Trump, in a pointed message, discredited Massey, suggesting that true supporters of his agenda should distance themselves from him, while also indicating that there are other capable Republican candidates ready to challenge Massey in the primaries.
In a follow-up post, Trump escalated his tone, demanding that lawmakers dismiss what he referred to as “this pathetic loser.” The ongoing tension between Trump and Massey reflects broader disagreements within the Republican party, particularly around issues related to governance and military action.
