Washington – A ballroom renovation in progress.
President Trump recently shared that the new ballroom being added to the White House will be more spacious than initially projected, now able to accommodate around 900 guests—this marks a 40% increase in capacity.
“We’ve made it a little bigger. It’s just top-notch, really,” Trump noted in a recent phone interview.
Initially, the White House had estimated the ballroom would hold 650 attendees (90,000 square feet), with construction costs estimated at around $200 million.
Trump mentioned that he plans to utilize his own funds, alongside contributions from a supporter he described as a “patriot.”
The construction team has already started work on this marquee addition to the White House, which Trump is clearly enthusiastic about.
“We can see all the trucks right there,” he remarked to reporters last Friday. “They’re kicking off the construction of the new ballroom.”
This idea has been on Trump’s mind for over ten years, dating back to the Obama administration.
The lead developer suggested that a ballroom in the White House is essential for hosting foreign dignitaries and high-ranking officials, pointing out that using tents on the south lawn for significant events is far from ideal.
Throughout his presidency, Trump has been focused on updating the White House, including plans to add a flagpole to the south lawn and make changes in the Oval Office with more ornate decorations.
When finished, the ballroom will represent the most significant renovation to the White House since the East Wing was expanded during Roosevelt’s presidency and the internal upgrades and balcony additions completed under Truman.
The ballroom will be located near the East Wing and is projected to be completed by early 2029.
In a short NBC interview, Trump, still reeling from the recent loss of his friend Charlie Kirk, called for unity while criticizing the “radical left” for perpetuating violence.
“I want to see the nation heal,” Trump added during the call. “But we’re dealing with a radical left that’s… just chaotic and unfair.”
