Democrats in battleground states are being forced to consider what it means for their own races, given Biden’s weak performance in last week’s debate and their ties to him.
“They’re going to bury it until the ‘Biden should go’ argument reaches some kind of conclusion,” predicted Republican strategist David Kochel.
Biden’s performance against Trump was swiftly slammed, and reports of Democratic panic spread quickly, even as nearly everyone across ideological lines seemed to agree that the president had performed poorly.

“Everyone is scared, but the smart ones [politicians] “I understand it’s the president’s decision how to proceed after the disaster of that debate,” Kocher said of Senate Democrats facing a tough reelection fight.
Five incumbent Democratic senators are facing some of the most fierce races this term and are independent political handicappers. Cook Political Report He rated the seats of Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) as “close.”

Sens. Bob Casey (D-PA) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) are in a race that is considered “Democrat-favored.”
While it’s unlikely that five senators would cross the line and call for Biden to withdraw, “I’m sure some of these senators are praying that Biden withdraw,” Kochel argued.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) was quick to link Democrats and other candidates vying for the open seat to Biden, highlighting their past assurances that the president can lead the country for the next four years.

“Democrats created this disaster by continuing to prop up Joe Biden for years despite his clear mental decline. Now they have plunged the country into a national crisis. They owe the country an accountability,” NRSC spokesman Philip Letsow said in a statement.
According to Sean Brown, vice president at Axiom Strategies, “self-interest and self-preservation will be the ultimate motivators.”
Balance of power: Democrats say people want to discuss Biden’s position after debate
“As Biden’s intellectual competence comes into question and the debate continues over whether Democrats should run him as their nominee, Democrats in battleground states will be forced to make a clear distinction between him and Joe,” he explained. “The ultimate problem for them is that there is no positive message from four years of a Biden administration for Democrats to tell instead.”
Republican strategist Cody Hall agreed that the negative attention against Biden has put each candidate in a weaker position in their race. “Jon Tester, Sherrod Brown, Tammy Baldwin and Bob Casey would rather be a potted plant than have Joe Biden at the top of his game right now,” he said.

He added, “They will each be held accountable for a president the American people know is unfit for the job and for left-wing policies that are making life harder for families across the country.”

Democrats are expected to rely on running against Trump, not alongside Biden, to survive these races. “Running alongside Biden is just not sustainable,” said Republican strategist John Feeley.
“They will say the best way to protect democracy is to check the power of President Trump,” he predicted.
