Primary results are in, race is set to replace Democratic governor of Biden’s home state in November

The showdown in November will be between Delaware voters deciding the state's next governor.

New Castle County Mayor Matt Meyer won Tuesday's Democratic primary election, beating Delaware Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall Long and National Wildlife Federation CEO Colin O'Mara.

Meyer was the only one of the three candidates with no political experience in Dover, the state capital.

On the Republican side, Delaware House Minority Leader Mike Ramone also won a three-way primary against a former New York City police officer and another Republican candidate.

But in Delaware, Biden's home state and where he served as a senator from 1973 to 2009, Republicans have little chance of winning statewide office.

Delaware has not had a Republican governor since January 1993, and registered Democrats vastly outnumber Republicans.

Ramone told Fox News Digital in July that his goal was to flip the state to the Republican Party.

“Delaware has been one-party state for 32 years, and here I am. Giving Delaware a Choice“Balance breeds debate, debate breeds testing, and testing avoids unexpected consequences,” Ramone said.

Gov. John Carney has reached the two-term limit and is therefore ineligible to run again.

He previously served as lieutenant governor and Delaware's only member of the House of Representatives.

Carney had supported Hall-Long as his successor, but allegations of campaign finance improprieties hampered her momentum.

Like Carney, Delaware's senators and representatives are both Democrats.
