Netanyahu Stresses Israel’s Ties with Evangelical Leaders

As discussions about U.S. aid to Israel and the country’s foreign policy in the Middle East heat up, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting with evangelical Christian leaders in Florida. He took this opportunity to underline Israel’s reliance on faith-based supporters in the U.S.

This gathering followed a prior meeting with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. The atmosphere within conservative circles has been increasingly focused on the nature and extent of American support for Israel.

During the meeting, Netanyahu declared that Israel has seen “victory in many respects” amidst what he termed a “seven-front war”. However, he cautioned that new challenges are emerging, particularly from the West.

He referred to what he sees as an “eighth front,” emphasizing the need for a battle for the hearts and minds of young people in the West, and particularly of the American public. According to Netanyahu, this isn’t just Israel’s struggle, but a broader ideological battle. “This is a common fight between our Jewish and Christian civilizations,” he articulated.

Netanyahu made it clear that the ideological struggle is as critical as military endeavors. He commented on the misconception that “faith should be silenced” while stating that understanding terrorism is important, yet it must be confronted and defeated.

He continually highlighted the deep-rooted historical connections between Christian Zionists and Israel. Acknowledging the essential support from American Christians, he stated, “You represent the Christian Zionists who made Jewish Zionism possible,” while expressing gratitude for their friendship. “I can say we couldn’t have had better friends,” he emphasized.

Netanyahu shared that he had conversed with Trump the day before and had discussed the various global threats facing Israel and its allies. He identified “radical Shiite Islam” led by Iran and “radical Sunni Islam,” associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, as significant concerns.

Addressing the persecution of Christians worldwide, he noted that Christians face targeting in places like “Syria, Lebanon, Nigeria, Turkey, and more,” arguing that Israel uniquely serves as a protector. “One nation safeguards the Christian community, enables its growth, defends it, and ensures its prosperity,” he asserted, “That nation is Israel. There is no other. There is none.”

Prime Minister Netanyahu committed Israel to working towards supporting endangered Christian communities globally. He articulated a vision for forming an alliance that resembles a “United Nations of nations” aimed at assisting Christian communities around the world, expressing a desire to reciprocate the support they receive.

Danny Danon, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, who was present at the meeting, later commented on the evangelical leaders’ commitment to Israel, calling it “inspiring” and noting that shared values strengthen the bond between the two nations.
