The removal of Prince Andrew’s coat of arms and flag from Windsor Castle has been described by experts as yet another blow to the tarnished royal family. This change comes shortly after Andrew lost his title and honors earlier this month.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed the removal. Royal expert Helena Chard commented that this decision adds to Andrew’s humiliation, suggesting that the royal family is attempting to further distance itself from him to safeguard the monarchy. She stated, “He is slowly being ousted!”
Chard emphasized that this act is a clear indication of Andrew’s dwindling status within the royal sphere. “More shame and humiliation for Andrew…another nail in the coffin.”
In an interesting note, experts pointed out that the banner’s removal is usually reserved for severe offenses such as treason or rebellion against the Crown. Hilary Fordwich, another royal expert, remarked that this action is unprecedented and particularly distressing for Andrew. She insisted it serves as a significant move by the royal family, especially under the leadership of Prince William, to disassociate from him.
Richard Fitzwilliams echoed these sentiments, calling it “probably a stroke of luck” that Andrew’s banner was recently taken down from St George’s Chapel. He likened the situation to historical practices concerning nobility and disgrace.
The changes were prompted shortly after the release of excerpts from Virginia Giuffre’s memoir, in which she accuses Andrew of involvement in her trafficking at a very young age. Following these allegations, Andrew issued a statement asserting that continued accusations would interfere with the royal family’s duties. He expressed his belief that stepping back from public life was necessary for the greater good of the monarchy.
