It has been widely reported that President Joe Biden’s administration has withheld military aid to Israel as Israeli forces move into the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah. Mr. Biden’s recent actions have done little to calm anti-Israel demonstrators in the United States, whose actions are taking place almost daily across the country.

Thousands of people gathered in Manhattan’s Union Square on Tuesday to demand that the United States and Israel “keep their hands off Rafah.” As chants of an “intifada” leading to “free Palestine” rang out, non-protesters in the park spent the day lying on the grass or caring for dogs at a dog park.

The incident came a day after another anti-Israel protest in which a crowd attempted to disrupt the Met Gala. The demonstrators approached but were unable to reach the location where the event was being held as New York City police prevented them from entering. Eventually, some in the crowd destroyed the 107th Infantry Memorial, which honors soldiers who served in the unit during World War I.
There have been many protests in New York City since October 7, but Tuesday’s protest was not the only one to speak out against Israel taking over Hamas’ last stronghold. Ta.
Rallies were held in Dallas, Austin, Los Angeles, Berkeley, and Washington, DC, to name a few.
Diehard Palestinian supporters see Biden’s actions since October 7 as mere pandering during a high-stakes election. If Biden really cared about the Palestinian people, they say, he would have taken action last year. That doesn’t mean those voters will go to Donald Trump, but it will put pressure on the Biden campaign not to lose voters in states like Michigan.
By way of background, camping remains an issue facing universities across the country. The encampment at George Washington University remains abandoned despite the university’s request for intervention from Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Pamela Smith. Protesters in the camp don’t think Biden’s recent actions on military aid will be nearly enough to get them to pack up and go home.
All of this will culminate at the Democratic National Convention in August. Far-left groups have vowed to march on the Unification Center even if they are unable to obtain a protest permit from the city of Chicago. Unless Biden takes military action against Israel, there is nothing he can do to placate the far left and stop direct action.
