A Pro-Trump organization is running advertisements in ten battleground districts held by Democrats across the U.S., including those represented by Laura Gillen from Long Island and Josh Riley from the Hudson Valley.
One of the radio ads states, “Did you notice Rep. Laura Gillen voted to raise taxes by $4 trillion?” This initiative is funded by a group promoting economic prosperity.
Unleashed Prosperity Now, established by former President Trump and economist Stephen Moore—who was involved in crafting the GOP’s 2017 “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act”—spearheads this campaign.
“She claims it’s just about taxing the wealthy,” says the narrator in the ad about Gillen.
Another voice in the ad chimes in, “It’s what Democrats always claim, but we all know who ends up paying.”
Moore acknowledges the salt deduction cap—part of the 2017 law that limited state and local tax deductions to $10,000—as a troubling policy, though he believes it will persist. He suggested it may need to be adjusted to attract Republican votes from states like New York and New Jersey.
This tax law reduced the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%, increased the standard deduction, and expanded the child tax credit but also eliminated various deductions.
The cap has particularly impacted affluent residents in high-tax areas, resulting in significant personal income and property tax burdens.
Trump has plans to eliminate taxes related to budget tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits, while he recently called for substantial cuts to federal agencies, excluding the Department of Defense, to fund these tax reductions.
Moore argues that Democrats in these swing districts should be held accountable for any potential tax increases if the 2017 cuts aren’t revisited. He aims to broaden the advertising campaign to advocate for tax cuts and keep pressure on lawmakers.
He added, “Every ordinary family is likely to face a tax hike of $2,000 to $3,000 if this bill doesn’t pass. It’s a genuine disaster for everyone.”
There have been no comments yet regarding the campaigns of Gillen and Riley.
