Unveiling a Secret Nonprofit’s Influence on Democratic Messaging

Recent revelations highlight a covert initiative intended to bolster the Democratic presence online, involving a nonprofit named Chorus linked to the influential 16 30 Funds, known for its left-leaning financial backing. Dubbed the Chorus Creator Incubator program, this effort appears to recruit prominent leftist influencers, offering up to $8,000 monthly for promoting party narratives to a wide audience.

The contract shared with reports stipulates that influencers must keep their involvement confidential, prohibiting them from disclosing their associations with Chorus or the 16 30 Funds. The guidelines dictate that all interactions with lawmakers and political figures must go through Chorus, and any content creation aimed at supporting or opposing candidates requires prior consent from the organization.

Participants in this program include various popular figures from platforms like TikTok and YouTube, such as Olivia Julianna, who has previously worked to engage young male voters.

In discussions among influencers, logistical details were casually tossed around. One creator remarked about needing to send a joint email to the group. Another joked about collective negotiations, referencing the dynamics of their community. This group collectively boasts over 13 million followers and plays a significant role in promoting Democratic interests, though progress seems limited as discussions unfold.

The 16 30 Funds have positioned themselves as major players in Democratic circles, distributing substantial sums to various left-leaning initiatives, particularly during the 2020 elections to support non-participating former Senate candidates.

Interestingly, Chorus also formed a partnership in late 2024 with Good Influence, an agency aimed at connecting content creators with socially responsible campaigns. They claim their initial cohort reaches around 40 million followers and secures over 100 million views weekly.

While some influencers are eager about their collaboration with Chorus, there are concerns regarding the restrictive nature of the program. Critics believe that the Democratic Party should invest directly into independent media rather than funneling resources through intermediary organizations like Chorus.
