Whenever tragedy occurs, some politicians will exploit it to further their own political ends, and the Apalachee High School shooting in Georgia is no exception.
The horror began when a 14-year-old student shot and killed two students, Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, and two teachers, Christina Irimy and Richard Aspinwall.
After further investigation, police reported that the shooter had an apparent obsession with mass shootings, specifically the Parkland school shooting in 2018, which left 17 people dead.
Now, the Biden administration is using the shootings to suggest that guns should be taken out of people's hands and controlled solely by the government.
Sara Gonzalez The writers of “Sara Gonzales Unfiltered” couldn't agree more.
“Of course, if you're careful, you know that murder is illegal. Schools are gun-free zones, and we can't make murder even more illegal. It's already illegal, and bad people are going to do really bad things. So the least we can do for our kids is provide them with some meaningful safety,” Gonzalez says.
Apalachee High School has armed school resource officers on duty and the damage could have been much worse if they had not been on scene.
However, Kamala Harris has publicly stated that our schools need to be “demilitarized” and that police officers should not be in schools.
“Removing police officers and school resource officers from schools just makes kids easy targets. Camara says she wants to demilitarize,” Gonzalez said.
Spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre seized the opportunity to use Biden administration policies to remind Americans that “we need universal background checks” and that “we need to ban assault weapons.”
“The body isn't even cold yet, so let's not waste time making excuses or taking away people's Second Amendment rights,” Gonzalez said.
