Prosecutors decline to file charges in death of nonbinary high school student in Oklahoma

Dagny Benedict, a 16-year-old who identifies as non-binary and goes by the name Nex Benedict, was rushed to the hospital on Feb. 7, the day after a school fight broke out at Owasso High School. Benedict was pronounced dead, and activists rushed to call the police. Causing tragedy to advance the LGBTQ+ agenda.

On Thursday, prosecutors said they found no basis to file charges in the case.

“Based on the Owasso Police Department’s investigation, I agree with the Owasso Police Department’s determination that juvenile charges are not warranted,” Tulsa County District Attorney Stephen A. Kunzweiler said in a statement.

“From all the evidence collected, this battle was an example of mutual combat,” Kunzweiler added. “We do not reasonably believe that the State of Oklahoma could sustain its burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt if the charges were brought.”

He went on to say that police found a note that made no mention of the fight in the bathroom.

“A key part of the Owasso Police Department’s investigation was the discovery of several short notes written by Benedict that appeared to be related to the suicide,” Kunzweiler said.

He added that the coroner’s report said Benedict suffered only superficial injuries from the fight.

The liberal narrative collapses

The article was initially used by LGBTQ+ activists and liberal politicians to criticize Republican policies on transgender issues. Some claimed, without evidence, that the student was beaten to death in a bathroom fight due to anti-LGBTQ+ hatred.

Police released a video of an officer’s interview with Benedict, in which he admitted to splashing water on the girls in the bathroom and causing a fight.

Police later revealed that an initial coroner’s report found that Benedict died by suicide, rather than from injuries sustained in a fight in the bathroom.

Nevertheless, activists continue to blame Republicans despite facts that undermine their charges.
