Los Angeles Highway Protest Against ICE

On Sunday, a significant number of protesters gathered on the 101 highway in Los Angeles, disrupting traffic and displaying various foreign flags.

Footage circulating online showed a large crowd occupying the highway in the afternoon, which led to interventions by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). According to reports, traffic was halted in both directions.

Protesters constructed a makeshift barrier on the southbound side of the Spring Street highway. They soon encountered riot-equipped LAPD officers, resulting in the closure of all northbound lanes as well.

Violent clashes erupted over the weekend, reportedly triggered by federal immigration enforcement actions. Some activists were seen throwing eggs and shouting warnings about an impending raid.

Video captured by KTLA displayed a line of law enforcement officers while protesters cheered and confronted them. During the unrest, a car in the intersection was set ablaze.

According to reports, over 40 individuals were arrested on Friday in connection with the unrest, which drew ire from local officials and immigration advocates. The situation escalated as ICE agents conducted operations under federal orders, prompting criticism from some political leaders who viewed it as an unnecessary show of force.

Some have expressed that the federal government’s decision to deploy 2,000 National Guard members to the area was more about creating a spectacle than addressing an actual security deficiency.
