Protesters Against ICE Disrupt 101 Freeway in Los Angeles Once More

Protests Disrupt LA Highways

On Tuesday, anti-ICE protesters once again blocked traffic on the 101 highways in Los Angeles, creating significant delays during rush hour. This disruption occurred while many residents were heading home from work. Viral footage showed demonstrators walking on the highway, with most waving Mexican flags while only a few displayed American ones.

The California Highway Patrol had attempted to block the highway entrance. Yet, protesters found a way onto the highway, squeezing through a gap in the fence. Officers were dispatched to the scene and arrested some individuals who refused to leave, while others were pushed back.

Earlier in the week, violent protests had erupted in Los Angeles against federal immigration enforcement. Some protesters threw eggs and shouted warnings about a supposed raid, as footage captured police standing by while others blocked traffic and vandalized law enforcement vehicles. A vehicle in the intersection was reportedly set ablaze.

During these confrontations, law enforcement arrested over 40 individuals in a raid as part of a search warrant on Friday, a situation that frustrated local officials and immigration advocates.

Amid the unrest, President Trump decided to deploy 4,000 National Guard troops to provide additional support for ICE operations, alongside hundreds of U.S. Marines for peacekeeping. In response, Democrats criticized this move, viewing it as an escalation of federal power.

As one affected official remarked, “The federal government has taken over the California State Guard and deployed 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles, not because there is a lack of law enforcement, but because they want a show.”
