Protesters gather around Hilton Canopy Hotel, thought to be housing federal agents after the ICE shooting involving Renee Nicole Good

On Friday night, a large group of vocal anti-ICE protesters gathered at a Minneapolis hotel, where they suspected federal agents might be staying, following the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good.

The crowd swelled outside and entered parts of the Hilton Canopy Hotel, making a ruckus with whistles, drums, and chants like “fk ICE.” They held signs demanding that federal agents “get out of Minnesota,” as captured in a video on social media.

One 27-year-old protester, sporting pink hair, expressed a strong desire for federal agents to leave, stating, “We don’t know if they’re here, but we’ll do whatever we can to keep Minneapolis safe.”

It remains uncertain whether any immigration officials were actually staying at the hotel, as bewildered guests watched the chaos unfold.

Given the tense situation, federal authorities had to find alternative accommodations after the Hampton Inn by Hilton in Lakeview canceled reservations due to potential immigration enforcement actions.

“Get out of Minneapolis,” pleaded a 31-year-old software developer named Eric. “They’re just fanning the fire. It’s worst for the people inside, but these businesses need to get the message. These hotels are hosting ICE and we want them out.”

Another protester expressed his disgust over Good’s death, saying he felt liberated as he voiced his anger through the crowd. A 41-year-old woman shared her feelings, mentioning how good it felt to let out her emotions. “My neighborhood is very diverse. If you took that away, I wouldn’t want to live there. We value difference and diversity here,” she remarked.

At one moment, police attempted to manage the demonstration by labeling it an “unlawful assembly.” While many eventually dispersed, some continued to play drums, and reports mentioned that a few arrests were made.

Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old activist, was shot and killed following an incident where she allegedly fired at an immigration officer during a protest in Minneapolis. According to federal officials, she “armed” the driver of a plum-colored Honda as she drove toward ICE officer Jonathan Ross.

A new video from the officer’s cell phone showed Good’s wife, Rebecca, in the driver’s seat while mocking ICE. An investigator repeatedly ordered Good out of the vehicle, but Rebecca urged her to “drive, baby, drive,” leading to the confrontation that resulted in gunfire.

After the shooting, Rebecca was seen crying and expressing regret, saying, “It’s my fault.”

In the aftermath, President Trump and Homeland Security officials labeled Good a “domestic terrorist,” while local authorities condemned the use of deadly force, calling the incident a “murder.”
