Protesters in Iran are demonstrating bravery against oppression, yet liberals focused on Israel appear indifferent.

Reports indicate that hundreds of protesters have been killed by security forces as violence in Iran escalates.

With internet and phone services cut, concerns grow that the situation could worsen amid the blackout.

Yet, Iranians are increasingly taking to the streets to challenge the regime’s brutal actions. The courage displayed in such numbers against relentless oppression is unprecedented.

If the regime were to fall, it could drastically alter regional and global dynamics. This could be one of the most significant events of the century. Nevertheless, the response from some Western liberals has been disappointing, almost dismissive.

So far, there haven’t been any rallies in support of the beleaguered protesters. Those who previously criticized Israel regarding current events in Gaza seem to lack awareness about the dire situation unfolding in Iran.

Initially, many Western media outlets overlooked the Iranian uprising, later framing it merely as a protest for better pay, and subsequently amplifying the regime’s narratives.

Uprising

This movement is more than just a challenge to the regime; it stands against the broader oppression associated with radical Islam. Such a notion seems difficult for some Western liberals to grasp. For them, when Islamist violence occurs, it complicates their narrative that positions Western influence as the principal culprit.

Many of these individuals struggle to acknowledge the harsh realities of Islamic extremism and oppression.

They often prioritize their belief that Western imperialism is always the antagonist, while viewing Muslims as perpetual victims—a crucial element of their moral identity.

This is ironic, but among some Western progressives, Islam has become a symbol of moral righteousness.

Much of this stems from the Palestinian cause, which serves as a defining issue for them.

Palestinians are frequently portrayed as the quintessential oppressed group, suffering from historical injustices and ongoing violence from Israel. Yet, much of this narrative is skewed. Nevertheless, it has taken on a near-religious fervor among many.

This has also led to a failure to see how this cause has been manipulated by groups like the Muslim Brotherhood, who aim to influence Western society. Qatar, in particular, has made significant strides in this regard, cultivating relationships within Western educational institutions and media.

The Palestinian narrative has distorted truths about victimhood and aggression, creating fertile ground for these ideologies amidst a post-truth environment.

As a result, support for radical elements has permeated Western public life.

This issue is especially pronounced in the UK, where the Labor government, under Keir Starmer, has struggled to tackle various challenges linked to Islamic extremism.

In Birmingham, the police appear to be under pressure from local Islamist groups, often targeting Israeli supporters while downplaying actual threats.

A similar trend is noticeable in the United States, particularly in New York, where Mayor Zoran Mamdani offered a tepid response to intimidating chants from Hamas followers outside a synagogue recently.

This gradual infiltration of Islamist sentiments into both the UK and the US has, in part, been facilitated by those who view the Muslim world primarily as victims of Western actions.

During the 1979 Iranian revolution, liberals saw the clerics’ rise as a stand against oppression, neglecting the ensuing violence under the regime.

I Wish You Victory

Rather than challenging these issues, many aligned with Islamist groups in opposition to both Israel and America.

It’s crucial to recognize that the Islamic jihad against the West gained momentum post-1979, as Shia clerics aimed to establish an Islamic caliphate, influencing Sunni perceptions across the region.

This mindset fueled the recent attacks led by Hamas against Israel. However, it also resulted in significant tactical defeats for groups like Hezbollah, as well as setbacks for Iran’s military capabilities.

The weakening of the Iranian regime might spark further public dissent and could ultimately result in its downfall.

This would be a setback for Islamists globally and a major step toward peace and freedom. It’s no wonder that those opposed to Western values are unsettled by these developments. Yet, it’s vital for everyone who values decent principles to hope for the success of the brave Iranian protesters fighting against a pervasive threat.
