Protests Erupt at Immigration Facility in Illinois
Just days after a shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas, a large crowd gathered outside the Illinois Sanctuary Immigration Detention Center, shouting chants like “ICE!” and “Shoot the ICE!”
This week, a 29-year-old man opened fire at the Dallas facility, tragically taking the lives of two immigrant detainees. Among other alarming details, he had written “Anti-ICE” on one of the shell casings and had recently looked up videos related to Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
On Friday, over 200 individuals demonstrated outside the Broadview Processing Center, where ICE detains undocumented immigrants. The protesters blocked access to one of the facility’s gates, disrupting operations, according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials.
Julio Rosas from Blaze captured footage showing the crowd yelling phrases like “Kill ICE!” and “Shoot the fuckers!” Officials have noted that at least one individual from the mob was arrested with a firearm.
“Just days after the horrific attack in Dallas, over 200 protesters gathered at the Broadview Processing Center. They were shouting ‘ICE filth,'” stated Tricia McLaughlin from DHS.
“These threats and acts of violence against ICE must cease; violence has no place in American political discourse. We urge Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson to denounce these protests and reconsider the way they speak about ICE,” she added.
This month, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) controversially compared ICE’s enforcement of federal immigration laws to Nazi Germany in a statement made to National Public Radio (NPR).
“If ICE continues to operate this way based on racial profiling, then it’s essentially what we’re becoming,” he remarked.
Likewise, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) described ICE agents in July as akin to “secret police” that pose a threat to the community.
