ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes has voiced her concerns regarding media coverage of recent anti-ICE riots in parts of Los Angeles County. The violent scenes, including images of burning vehicles, have sparked discussions involving President Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom about local law enforcement responses.
Kimes expressed her thoughts on Bluesky, stating, “What’s happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being covered is one of the major stress tests of today’s media.” She pointed out issues like misinformation, AI influence, and declining media literacy, likening the situation to an emergency response system failing during a storm.
The internet has been flooded with videos and pictures of looting, prompting many businesses in Los Angeles to reinforce their storefronts to prevent further damage.
Attorney General Pam Bondy issued a stern warning to looters during an appearance on “Fox and Friends.” She mentioned that looting in California would be prosecuted under the Hobbs Act, indicating a shift from previous leniencies. “It’s not an era of soft crime anymore,” she emphasized.
After days of unrest, law enforcement has taken dozens of individuals into custody amidst the ongoing protests and riots.
